Languages

One language setting covers everything your clients and team read: the commenting widget, the emails Simple Commenter sends, the Email integration and Slack messages. Ready languages apply at once. Any other language is made with AI in a few minutes.

Choose a Language

  1. Open the project's Widget › Language settings
  2. Pick the Language. Same as workspace follows the workspace language
  3. To set the workspace language, go to Project template › Widget › Language. New projects start with it, and so do emails that belong to no project, like team invites

Projects set to Same as workspace follow the workspace language when it changes.

Add a Language

  1. In the project's Widget › Language, pick Add a language… in the language list
  2. Pick a language under Ready now to use it at once
  3. Or pick any other language under Made with AI when you pick it. A progress dialog shows the widget, email and Slack texts as they are translated, and the language is ready in a few minutes

Languages come from a shared translation that Simple Commenter keeps up to date. When we add or change an English text, every language gets the new wording.

Change the Wording

The project's Widget › Language shows every text of its language next to the English original. Your changes apply to every project in that language. The tabs split them into Widget, Emails, Slack and Your changes.

Ask AI

Type what you want in Ask AI to change the wording, for example "call comments « retours »" or "write less formally", and click Suggest changes. AI proposes changes and you pick the ones to keep. Nothing changes until you apply them.

Edit a Text Yourself

Click a text to edit it. Placeholders such as {count} or [Terms of Service] must stay exactly as they are, because the widget fills them in. Click Undo to go back to the shared text.

Import and Export

Use the ⋯ menu to Export as CSV or Import from CSV. Each row is checked before it is saved, and rows that cannot be used are listed with the reason.

Preview

Click Preview to see a sign-in email, an activity digest, an Email integration message or a Slack message in the language. Your changes show with a dashed outline. No email is sent.

Your changes belong to your workspace and win over the shared translation. If the English text behind one of your changes is updated, the text shows an English changed badge so you can check it.

Texts for One Project

Under the project's Widget › Language, you can change a widget text for that project alone. Everything else follows the project's language and gets its improvements.

Projects that had texts set before languages existed show how many of them say the same as the language. Remove those, and the project picks up new widget texts and fixes by itself.

Old Template Texts

If your project template held widget texts, Project template › Widget › Language offers them once. Pick the language they are written in and click Import, and they become your changes for that language. Or click Remove them. New projects no longer copy template texts.

Who Can Change Languages

  • Workspace admins can change languages and texts
  • Team leads can read them
  • Clients do not see language settings
