The Basics
What a web feedback tool actually does
A web feedback tool lets someone comment directly on a live web page instead of describing the problem somewhere else. The reviewer clicks the element they mean, types what is wrong, and the tool saves that comment together with the page URL, the browser, the operating system, and the viewport width. Your team opens the comment and sees the same screen the reviewer was looking at.
A note that says “the button looks broken on mobile” leaves the developer to ask which page and device were involved. Pinning it to the button keeps that location with the discussion. Add the actions taken and the expected result so the next person can reproduce the issue, rather than infer a cause from a screenshot.
Teams reach for one of these when review rounds start arriving as screenshots pasted into email, spreadsheets with a Notes column, or a message that just says the homepage looks off. Agencies use them for client sign-off, product teams for QA before release, and marketing teams for copy review on staging.
Collect website feedback from the first review to sign-off
Consider a client reviewing the mobile contact page on staging. They can open the authorized review link, point at the form, and describe what happened after tapping Send. Your team reads the comment with its page context, investigates, and replies in the same thread when the change is ready to check.

- Agree on the pages, reviewer, and deadline using the website project plan.
- Run the team's checks with the website QA testing guide and QA checklist.
- Invite the client, collect comments, and use the bug report template when a defect needs reproduction steps.
- Retest fixes, then record an explicit decision with the client approval workflow. A resolved comment is not a whole-site release approval.
On WordPress, the plugin also lets the team manage comments and replies inside WP admin. On other supported sites, install the widget using the relevant setup guide. Staging authentication still applies: reviewers need permission to open the underlying site.
How to choose a feedback tool for your website
Most website feedback tools demo well, because every demo is one comment on one page. The differences show up in the second month. These are the five questions worth answering before you commit a client to one.
- Whether reviewers need an account
- Try the invitation with someone outside your team. Check whether they can open the page and leave feedback with the access settings you intend to use. Decide whether you need named reviewers and reply notifications or a quick review without an account.
- Whether comments stay attached after a deploy
- A pin is only useful if it still points at the right element next week. Tools differ a lot here. Ask whether comments are anchored to the element or to screen coordinates, because coordinates break the moment the layout shifts.
- Where the feedback ends up
- Feedback that lives in a separate dashboard becomes a second inbox nobody checks. Look for a tool that pushes comments into the tracker your developers already open every morning, whether that is Slack, Jira, Linear, Trello, or a plain webhook.
- Whether it runs on staging
- Most review rounds happen before launch, on a preview deploy or a password-protected staging server. A tool that only works on public production URLs solves the wrong half of the problem.
- What it costs as you add projects
- Compare the full allowance for your active sites, team members, reviewers, and required integrations. A low starting price may describe a different workflow from the one your agency needs.
Try the free tool or set up an ongoing review
If you want to see the mechanics before you sign up for anything, the free website feedback tool lets you try website commenting before setting up a team workflow. For ongoing client projects, create a workspace, choose reviewer access, and connect the tracker your team uses. The feedback widget page covers the one-line script you paste into your own site, and visual feedback explains how pinned comments and screenshots work together on design reviews.
Comparing named products instead? We keep an in-depth comparison of website feedback tools with pricing and honest fit notes, plus alternatives pages for the tools people usually shortlist against us.

“I won’t start a project without it. I had a larger website project that stalled because they couldn’t get around to editing the content or provide corrections. A year later I added Simple Commenter and showed them, 3 weeks later the project was launched. Real world value!”
Jim Langman
Product Hunt“After Markup changed it's plan pricing drastically, I was looking for an alternative [...] there were a 2-3 glitches with comment placement out of 25-50 comments [...] otherwise it worked very well, even on a live website. Overall my clients LOVED using Simple Commenter on their website revisions, saying it was way better than using Markup in past projects. Huge win!”
Katelyn
Verified review“I host and manage several clients on WordPress. SC is a great addition to my support stack in getting real input into *what* my clients are actually seeing and what they want. I've set the script into a code snippet that shows SC only to admins & editors and can be toggled on/off for ease of use.”
