What's new
Every update, as it ships.
November 2026
Sharper automatic screenshots
Photos on the page now show up in the screenshot even on a slow or busy computer, where some used to come out as grey boxes.
Change password asks for your current one
Change password in Profile now asks for your current password, or a six-digit code emailed to you if you forgot it, so someone at a device you left signed in cannot set a new one and lock you out.
Sign out other devices
Profile has a new button that signs you out on every other browser and device, including the widget on your sites, while the one you are using stays signed in.
October 2026
Switching modes is instant on busy pages
On a page with many comments the pill paused before it moved, because every switch built every comment again.
Merge duplicate comments
When the same issue gets reported two or three times, tick the comments in list view and merge them, or pick Merge into from a card's menu.
Paste screenshots into Assets
Press Cmd+V or Ctrl+V on the Assets page and a screenshot or copied image opens in the upload dialog, ready to upload.
Commenting on selected words is easier on phones
Press and hold a word on a phone and it turns your highlight colour, then drag with your finger still down to take in more words.
A quieter comment mode frame
When you switch to commenting, a soft dark glow lines the edges of the screen instead of a hard blue border, in the same black as the widget's buttons.
The widget is easier to use on an iPhone
Tapping into the sign-in email or the rewrite field no longer zooms the page, the comment box's text stays clear of its close button, and signing in from the comment box shows the whole sign-in page with your draft waiting for you when it closes.
Commenting on selected words works properly on phones
On an iPhone the Comment on this button no longer hides under the phone's Copy menu, the comment box opens under the words instead of on them and keeps them in view while you type, and the screenshot shows the words highlighted.
Bring clients and teammates in from your AI agent
Tell Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT to invite your client to review the site, and your client gets the same invitation email as from the dashboard.
Your AI agent can suggest features to us
When your AI runs into something Simple Commenter can't do, or sees you working around it, it sends us the request and tells you.
Subscribe from your AI agent
Ask Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT to subscribe and it gives you a Stripe link for the plan you pick, so you never open the dashboard.
Comments save faster on large accounts
On an account with thousands of comments, posting, replying to, editing or deleting a comment took two to five seconds, and everyone loading the widget at that moment waited too.
Agency attachments up to 5 GB save
On the Agency plan you can attach files up to 5 GB to a comment or reply, as the pricing page says.
Feedback looks like Simple Commenter inside Claude
When you ask Claude for your feedback through the connector, it now shows the list you know from the dashboard.
Filters stay in reach on a long comments page
Scroll down the Comments page and the filters, the comment count and Sort slide in as a small toolbar at the top, so you can change Status or Priority without scrolling back up.
Removing the plugin from one WordPress site leaves your other sites connected
Agencies run Simple Commenter on many WordPress sites from one account.
A WordPress site that lost its connection says so
When a site's connection to Simple Commenter is removed, for example by Disconnect on another site of the same account, the plugin kept calling with it on every page view and its pages showed errors.
Slack says when it has no channel to post to
If Slack is connected and switched on but no channel is chosen, nothing reaches Slack.
Status changes read properly in Email integration subjects
The subject of a status change said "Feedback #37 moved to done", and a custom status showed its internal name, such as needs_design.
See the flow before you change a setting
Wondering what a client actually goes through if you switch to Request Access, or let them sign in when they post?
Let your whole company in by email domain
On an Invite Only or Request Access project, add your company's email domain under Access, Client registration.
Your widget, emails and Slack in any language
If your clients read French, Polish or Estonian, everything they see from Simple Commenter can now speak it.
Every word of the widget can be translated
Every label, message and screen-reader name in the widget now follows your language, including the page filter, the mode buttons, upload and save messages, drawing tools, location help and the client review panel.
Comment notifications reach Slack, email and your other tools within seconds again
Since early October a new comment could reach Slack, the Email integration, Trello, Jira or a webhook several minutes to a few hours late.
Comment on the exact words
In comment mode, point at text and the highlight moves onto the letter under your cursor.
A saved feedback session keeps its link, and guests can join the project
Saving a free feedback session into your account used to end the link you had shared.
Changing your name updates the comments you already wrote
A comment keeps a copy of its author's name, so a rename used to leave old feedback under the old name.
No more empty "Written by AI" box on a new comment
A comment left in Preview showed a "Written by AI" box with no text in the sidebar the moment it was posted.
A new project page that walks you to the first comment
A project with no comments now shows three steps.
A clear answer when an attachment does not fit your plan's storage
A comment whose attachment would go over the plan's storage, per-file size or file type now comes back with a message that says which limit was hit and what to change, and the comment stays in the composer.
Comments page with clearer filters, a real list view and a tidy phone layout
Each filter button on the comments page now says what it is set to, for example Status To Do Review, and one Reset clears everything, so the row of coloured chips under the filters is gone.
The widget follows a dark site everywhere, and is easier to use by keyboard and on a phone
The tutorial and welcome popups, the comment mode notice and the sign in hint now follow a dark appearance, where they used to show a white panel on a dark site, and the frame around the page in comment mode takes your theme's colour.
Free feedback sessions keep your name and close cleanly
Comments in a free feedback session are signed with the guest name shown in the header again, and the "Identify yourself" button that opened nothing is gone.
The free website feedback tool posts comments without a screen-sharing prompt
Posting a comment in a free feedback session made the browser ask to share the tab, and on a Mac to allow screen recording.
Simple Commenter installs as a Claude Code plugin
One command in Claude Code adds the hosted connection and the fix-feedback skill, so there is no server to wire up by hand.
Your AI agent can install Simple Commenter on a site by itself
You built a page with an AI tool and want feedback on it.
Preview shows the right pins after you have looked at a file
Opening a file under Assets and then going to Preview without reloading left Preview without the page's pins, or showing the file's comments instead.
Portal and approval links sign clients in again
A client who pressed Open & comment in the feedback portal, or followed the link in the email saying their access was approved, arrived on the site signed out and had to sign in again.
The free website feedback tool loads on every visit again
Opening a free feedback session a second time, or reloading it, left the page without the comment pill and nothing could be posted.
Clients can be limited to their own feedback
A new "Client visibility" setting on the Access page shows each client only the comments they wrote and your team's replies, everywhere a client looks (widget, comment list, dashboard, emails).
Signing in on your site looks and works the same everywhere
A reviewer who has to sign in before commenting now gets a small dialog over the page instead of the side drawer.
Visitors can write their comment first and sign in when they post
On projects that require login, a new Access option "When they post their first comment" shows the full widget to every visitor.
The page path on a comment is no longer cut short
The comment popup on your site squeezed the page path down to a few characters ("/pr…") even when the row had room.
Agency is now €69 a month
The Agency plan, for teams running many client sites, dropped from €149 to €69 a month (€690 a year).
WordPress plugin 2.2.0, the rest of it
Creating an account from the plugin lets you choose where the workspace lives (Europe, United States or Australia), and signing in continues to the account's existing home.
You decide who from WordPress gets a seat
The WordPress plugin no longer turns site administrators and editors into team members by itself, which on an agency site could hand a client's WordPress admin account a seat.
The WordPress plugin and API tokens stay connected while routing records catch up
A plugin or API token whose routing record had not been published yet was refused with "The workspace has no verified routing assignment", so settings, user sync and sign-in calls failed while the widget itself kept working.
Comments save again on "Visible only with a token link" projects
A visitor who opened the feedback link and posted a comment without signing in was told "Domain has conditional loading on, and the url parameter is missing" and the comment was not saved.
Markers stay pinned while scrolling
On pages that scroll inside a panel the comment marker drifted behind its element and caught up after each scroll.
Leaving a page closes its open comment
Moving to another page of an app with a comment card open kept the card on screen saying the spot could not be found.
Screenshots sit above the replies
A screenshot that finished uploading after the comment card was already open landed under the reply box.
Esc no longer throws away a comment you are typing
Pressing Esc while writing a comment, including to close the tag or mention list, left Comment mode and lost the text.
Google sign-in in the widget keeps you signed in
A Workspace Admin on your team, or a client you invited under a Gmail address written with different dots or a plus tag, could sign in to the widget with Google and land straight back on the sign-in prompt.
Saving a free feedback session works again
Signing up or signing in from the free website feedback tool to keep a session ended with a message that the session could not be saved, and the comments stayed behind in the temporary session.
Screenshots in notification emails keep working
Opening a notification email more than a week after it arrived showed a broken image where the screenshot should be, and its attachment links had stopped working.
The widget works on localhost
Adding the snippet to a site you run on localhost left the widget unable to load or save comments.
Branded email sender details can be edited after setup
Agency workspaces with their own sender domain can change the From address, From name and Reply-to under Account → Branding at any time, without redoing the domain's DNS authentication.
Buy extra team seats on Pro
Pro includes 3 team seats, and the workspace owner can now add more from Members → Buy more seats or Account → Billing → Extra team seats, for €9.99 per seat per month (US$9.99, £8.99, A$14.99, C$14.99) in the plan's own currency, or 12 times that per year on annual Pro.
Your workspace has a home region
Every workspace now runs in one of three homes, Europe (Helsinki), the United States (New York) or Australia (Sydney), and its feedback, team and clients live there.
Access docs explain how visibility and registration combine
The Access documentation now spells out how widget visibility and client registration work together, with a recipe for a staging site where everyone sees the widget but every reviewer needs an account (Visible to all but requires login, plus Open Registration).
Account settings in three pages
The one long account page is now Profile for your own details and password, Preferences for the default project view, appearance and early access, and Workspace & region for the company name, storage usage and where the workspace runs, with a small menu to move between them.
September 2026
Large images save with the screenshot
A comment with a big photo and the automatic screenshot no longer fails with "Save not confirmed".
Widget settings apply on the next page load
Changing the widget position, colors, statuses or any other project setting could take up to ten minutes to show on the website because a cached copy of the old settings was never cleared.
Company login with SSO
Your team can sign in with its company identity provider using SAML SSO.
An intermittent database error is gone
The app asked MongoDB for an index it could never build, and the rejection occasionally surfaced on whatever action happened to be running, which then failed for no reason the user could see.
Invite-only access saves from WordPress
Picking "Invite only" under Access in the WordPress plugin failed silently, the setting bounced back to whatever it was before.
Fix a team member's email address
The address field on an existing member is editable.
Right project every time
Projects that share a hostname (staging vs live, or across agency accounts) are resolved by their unique key in Preview and replies, the Chrome extension prefers an exact host over a parent domain, and old snippets that pass the hostname now tolerate capital letters and "www".
Widget onboarding polish
Refreshing the setup wizard picks up where you left off instead of starting over, the verify step tells token-link projects to open the site with their private link, leaving a comment in Preview no longer counts as "widget installed", the owner walkthrough still appears after a first anonymous visit to your own site, and a visibility change on your site shows up within about a minute rather than ten.
Team and client invites
Approving or removing one client no longer signs every other client out of their password, invites sent with a capital letter in the email address can log in, sharing a file with a new client no longer fails with an error after the email went out, renaming a team member keeps their role, and you are told when an invite email could not be delivered so you can copy the link instead.
Clearer widget sign-in
The widget only shows "Login successful" once the sign-in link is confirmed and tells you when a link has expired.
Join page fixes
"Continue with Google" on the client join page works again, invites opened from a dashboard or file share now sign the client straight into the dashboard after joining, and a project with no website address no longer sends new clients to a broken page.
Invoices by email
Set an invoice email under Account → Billing → Invoice emails and every paid subscription invoice lands in that inbox as a PDF, the same invoice you download from Billing History, with your company name and address on it.
Screenshot previews retry connection failures
Image and font downloads retry a temporary connection failure once, helping screenshot previews and dev brief images load when the first request fails.
More reliable dev briefs
Briefs can be generated for comments that previously failed during processing, and a missing or unusable screenshot no longer prevents a brief from being written from the remaining comment and element context.
Search inside the documentation
Search now finds answers inside documentation sections, with a matching excerpt and a link to the relevant section, even when your words are not in the page title.
Connect your AI agent from the browser, nothing to install
Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Codex and any other client that supports remote MCP can connect to https://www.simplecommenter.com/api/mcp and sign in through the browser.
MCP setup and workspace settings are easier to find
Open MCP directly from a project's sidebar to find local API tokens, client setup instructions and hosted connection status, and reach workspace settings without leaving the project.
Export the feedback you need
Download all unarchived website feedback or every comment matching your current filters from Comments or Board, including reply threads and available screenshot and file links.
Comments carry the page's console errors
When a visitor leaves a comment, the widget saves the JavaScript errors that happened on that page before the click: console.error calls, uncaught exceptions and unhandled promise rejections, the last 10, never logs or warnings.
WordPress plugin 2.0
The plugin admin is rebuilt in the Simple Commenter design.
Rewrite with AI
A sparkle in every comment and reply box.
Bold, code and lists in comments
Comment and reply text now renders bold, code and - bullet lists, in the widget, the dashboard, the board, the drawer and the WordPress plugin.
Dev briefs
A few seconds after a client leaves a comment, a short developer-ready brief appears under their words: a one-line title, two sentences naming the element and the likely cause, an optional fix, and the facts the widget captured (selector, viewport, browser, page).
August 2026
Widget tutorial redesign
The tutorial's mode-switcher demo is now the real pill (it picks up your project's colors instead of a hard-coded replica), and tutorial buttons moved to the product's black pill style.
Invite prompt after your first comment
Right after an owner posts their first comment on a project with nobody else on it, a small card near the pill offers to invite their client or developer.
Owner first-run in the widget
Project owners now get a short three-step introduction the first time they open the widget on their own site: the mode pill (with keyboard shortcuts C / H / Esc), how to leave a comment, and a final step for inviting the client or developer the feedback is for.
Team-only comments
You and your team leads can now post comments that clients never see, so internal notes can live on the same project the client is reviewing.
Widget works inside more page-builder modals
Defeated focus traps from common UI libraries (Offcanvas, Headless UI) that broke commenting in modals.
@-mentions in replies
Mention teammates in comment replies from the dashboard with an @-picker.
Free templates hub
/templates with fillable, printable, downloadable templates (creative brief, website launch checklist, website QA checklist).
Developer API docs
The external REST API is now documented for building custom integrations.
Agency plan
New €149/mo tier built around whitelabel: custom domains, your branding, seats for the team.
Settings autosave
Settings pages save as you type, no more Save button hunting.
July 2026
Create comments via API and MCP
Comments can now be added from the dashboard, the external API, and by AI agents (create_comment), including unanchored comments that attach to the page later.
AI agents can fetch and fix your feedback (MCP server)
Connect Claude Code or Cursor to Simple Commenter and let the agent read comments, reply, update statuses, and go fix the issues in code.
Feature request board
Public board to request and vote on features, linked from the app header.
Whitelabel integrations
Integrations work on tenant domains.
Custom statuses + widget redesign
Define your own statuses with colors and ordering; the widget got a visual refresh at the same time.
Affiliate program
30% recurring for 12 months.
Kanban board view
Drag comments between status columns, full-width board with the same filters as the list view.
Dark mode
Light / dark / system switch on profile settings, across the whole dashboard.
Annual billing
Switch plans to annual and save.
Widget drawer updates
Sidebar UI improvements.
Docs refreshed
AI assistant, branding, feedback rounds, Site Preview, widget status filter; Discord community linked.
AI assistant in the dashboard
Chat with an assistant that knows your projects and comments, can summarize feedback, and proposes actions you approve with one click.
Whitelabel custom domains
Agencies can serve the full app on their own domain with their own branding (CNAME setup in settings).
June 2026
Screenshot capture overhauled
Comment screenshots now capture reliably on far more sites, including pages that used to come out blank or broken.
Integrations reworked under the hood
Slack, Trello and webhook notifications went through a refactor that made them more reliable.
Notification improvements
Comment notification fixes plus a backfill so previously missed notifications went out correctly.
